Exodus 18:21-22:
“Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens. Let them judge the people at all times; and let it be that every major dispute they will bring to you, but every minor dispute they themselves will judge. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you.”
Today, Lord, we offer our entreaties to You for our nation’s leaders, and today we pray over the Supreme Court Justices. First of all, we ask that each one would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and have hearts that fear God. We pray, with the knowledge of Truth and conviction of the Holy Spirit, that they would consider cases brought before them with fairness, wisdom, and courage, judging righteously and according to the laws of the Constitution. Confirm in their hearts what their true calling is, to interpret the laws of the Constitution, not to make new laws. Let there be no hidden agendas, persuasion or pressure from outside influences that would pervert true justice.
We pray for the task that lies before the Senate, to confirm the new Justice-nominee, Amy Coney Barrett. We ask that the process be done in an orderly manner, with all speed and diligence and that the next Justice be a person of the highest integrity and fortitude to withstand the scrutiny and challenges of the position. Please guard and guide Mrs. Barrett during the hearings and protect her heart. We ask that the slings and arrows thrown at her that are meant to destroy her would, in fact, make her stronger and reveal the hope that is within her. Protect also the privacy of her family. We know, dear God, that it is by your sovereign plan that leaders are put in place, and we pray that, in Mrs. Barrett’s case, she would be confirmed for such a time as this. Thank you, Father, that we can trust You and your plan and we will give You all the glory for the result. It is in the matchless name of Jesus that we pray. Amen.
