Day 11: Forgive Our Nation, O Lord

Job 12: 23-24:
“He makes nations great, and destroys them;
He enlarges nations and disperses them.
He deprives the leaders of the earth of their reason;
He makes them wander in a trackless waste.”

God’s Word says, “blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” There are so many things wrong with our country at the present time, things that go against His Word. Many of our leaders have lost all reason and we are in danger of wandering “in a trackless waste.” We sense that there is a threat to our freedoms, a threat to our right to defend ourselves and our families, as well as to the covenant secured by our Founders that promises we can freely worship God. We all must pray that those freedoms are never taken away.

Many look to worldly things for fulfillment, completeness, a sense of peace, but come away empty. We as a nation purposely turn away from God’s Word, His Commandments and precepts. As a nation, we used to revere His Holy name, but now we worship idols, look to our investments for security, and seek the internet for wisdom. What is good we call evil, and what is evil we call good.

Our country cannot continue on its current path without reaping God’s judgment. The Lord has warned us, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Gal. 6:7) This verse speaks to us as individuals but could apply to our nation as well—we reap what we sow. We must all pray hard in the days ahead that God will shed His grace and mercy on our nation, bring reconciliation, justice unity and peace.

Dear Lord, remind us that if we humble ourselves as a nation and seek your face, You will hear from heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land. Please God, we beg You to act upon your Word. We have strayed from You and the purpose for this nation. We have sinned against You; forgive the sins of our nation and have mercy on us. Heal us from the sins of abortion, injustice, perversion, human trafficking, slavery, immorality, deception, lying, corruption, bribery, violence on the innocent, and so much more that You are fully aware of. Help us to turn back to You, our righteous God, who can bestow upon us blessings of greatness and freedom as days of old. Forgive us, O God. Bring reconciliation, justice, unity and peace to our land. We pray in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. “ ~ Martin Luther King
