Psalm 63:1
“God—You are my God! I can’t get enough of You! I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts. So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless You every time I take a breath; My arms wave like banners of praise to You.” (The Message)
Father, we gather on this happy Sunday—whether in your houses of worship, in our homes, or in other places—we join in unity to praise You. It is part of our country’s written promises to its citizens that we are guaranteed the freedom to freely express our faith, which includes lifting praises to our Holy God. On this Sabbath Day, set aside for devotion to You, we trust that as we raise our songs, hymns, and spiritual songs in praise to You, that the sound from our lips would be sweet and would overflow like a fountain; we voice our humble prayers of adoration in the hope that our words would glorify your Holy name like banners of praise. Hear us, O God, we honor and praise You! It is Your name we raise. Amen.
“The climax of God’s happiness is the delight He takes in the echoes of His excellence in the praises of His people.” – John Piper
