Proverbs 29:2
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice;
But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”
Dear Father in heaven, we continue to pray according to your Word, for all those in authority and so today we pray for the Congress of the United States, as two representative bodies—the House and the Senate—but also for each individual who has been elected Congressman, Congresswoman, and each elected Senator. Firstly, because You desire all to be saved, we pray for the salvation of each and every member and those who work with them and for them. Again, we are reminded that You encourage us to do so, so that we would live peaceable lives and, oh how we need peace, dignity, and calm today! May each member’s heart be turned toward You and guided by You in all wisdom, and the work of their hands be for the good of our country and not for selfish gain or personal glory.
We ask that You rebuke those who say one thing but devise evil plans behind closed doors. We pray that each member would commit to integrity in all of their dealings and may a wave of righteousness flow through the hearts of each member so that they would experience what true service to country means: sacrifice, honor, and duty to the Constitution.
Lord, You say a house divided against itself cannot stand so, therefore, we pray that there be a healing of the rift between parties that would bring unity across the aisles and between the two legislative bodies like we haven’t seen in years.
We pray for each member of Congress and for their families that You would protect them in the days ahead as the election nears. As the ones who elect our representatives in the House and Senate, we pray that we would have Your wisdom and discernment as to which ones are honest, demonstrate integrity, protect the weak and ”least of these” from any harm. May it be obvious which ones promote unity, defend our country from enemies within and without our borders, promote justice, and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help them, God.
It is our desire to have godly men and women in authority over us, so we boldly ask that You remove those national leaders who oppose Your will and replace them with men and women You have hand-picked and chosen to fulfill your purposes. We release our will to Your will for our nation. May each elected official never forget Your promise, “He who honors Me I will honor.” We pray all of this in the mighty, powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
“We have no Government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” ~ John Adams’ Address to the Military, Oct. 11, 1798.
