Day 29: Pray That God’s Will Be Done – 40 Days of Prayer for Our Nation

Matthew 6: 9-10
“…So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed by Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…’”

Father in heaven, we lift up Your name in praise today, that Your name would be hallowed, sacred, greatly revered, and honored. Lord, we come before You today in thanksgiving for our beautiful land and for what You are already doing in the life of our nation as a result of the prayers we have been praying the last 28 days as we get closer to the election. Thank you for every candidate who desires to serve a noble cause that is greater than themselves.

Once again, we ask for forgiveness for ways we have failed and grieved You, O God, and pray that we will commit to going in a new direction, one that honors You and serves our country well. May we treat each other according to Your Word and will, and when we stray, lead us back to the right path, for Your sake.

Lord, we thank you for our Founding Fathers, who gave us a Constitution with enduring truths that are the foundation of our nation. We promise, with your help, to honor the truths in the Declaration of Independence: that all men are created equal, that we are endowed, by our Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Our prayer today is that Your will be done in this nation. May all men and women who are in elected positions and have been given authority over us serve our country and its people according to Your will. We pray that our hearts would be so aligned with Your will and purposes and that we are willing to go through whatever it takes for Your purposes to be accomplished. May we persevere with boldness, courage, and confidence in You through whatever might prevent that purpose from being accomplished.

Until You come again, we will continue to be faithful in prayer for America, for Your sake, and in Your name. Amen.

“If we work on marble, it will perish; if on brass, time will efface it; if we rear up temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work upon immortal minds and imbue them with principles, with the just fear of God and the love of our fellow men, we engrave on those tablets something that will brighten to all eternity.” ~ Daniel Webster, American Politician
