Day 272: America Prays Monday – Pray for Peace and Security

Jeremiah 33:6
“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal My people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.”
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Lord God, we are taught in Your Word that the world never offers peace for our hearts, that it only comes when we have a relationship with You. However, there are times when we encounter strife within our borders and with other nations that seek to harm us. Sometimes our own cities appear to be war zones, with battles raging among our own people. We ask, O Lord, that we may live peaceful lives and be productive as a nation.

Help us recognize that our safety cannot be solely based on an army or on law enforcement. We must call upon You, Almighty God, to end the strife in our nation, end the violence in our communities, end the enmity between the races, and bring justice and security to our people.

Help us also to settle disputes that we have with other nations. May any plan or plot that would harm our country or its citizens fail at the start. Give us rest from the years of strife in various parts of the world and bring healing to the heart of our nation so that we would experience Your peace and security. We pray in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus. Amen.

“To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness, which mankind now enjoys…Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican forms of government – and all blessings which flow from them – must fall with them.” –Jedidiah Morse

I am honored that you have taken the time to read my devotional prayer, and I trust you will be encouraged to pray for our nation during this America Prays Initiative.
