Day 258: America Prays

Proverbs 14:34
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.”

With the heaviness still pressing on my heart after the senseless murder of Charlie Kirk, it has become even more apparent that the “America Prays” initiative, created just two weeks ago, is a timely, urgent call to action. Now, more than ever, our nation needs God. Apart from Him, our country will fall to the forces of evil. We are in a battle, and the strategy to win lies in prayer. Over the next month or so, the theme of prayer will be prominent in my devotions, but not to the exclusion of other subjects. Today, let us come together to pray for America, the land we love.
“Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for this land. We are in desperate need of Your help at this time, this time of testing for our nation, when there is a sense of grief and much uncertainty for the future. We long for answers to the senselessness of violence against innocent men, women, and children, who come from all walks of life. We long for solutions to the strife that plagues our cities. Help us not to turn to bitterness or retribution, but rather to rest in Your peace and seek comfort in You.

From the beginning of this nation, its foundation was rooted in faith in You, Lord God, and the belief that our rights come from You and not man. Our Founding Fathers established this Republic with a godly heritage for us to live in freedom and to die for it if necessary. You blessed their efforts; will you please, O God, bless ours? We pray that men and women all over our nation will return to the faith of our Fathers, who will trust in You no matter the dangers ahead.

Help us to not only stand for what is morally right, according to Your Holy Word, but also to do what is right. Let all that we say and all that we do come from wise, discerning, understanding, and compassionate hearts.

We ask Your blessing upon the leaders of our nation, that they would also do what is morally right, not what is expedient or politically wise. Convict and change the hearts of all those who care more about their own selfish interests rather than the common good of the people they serve. Guide them to make wise decisions regarding the ills that plague our country.

Bless this land that we love so much, dear Father, and help America to return to faith in You, with a willingness to stand for the rightness that exalts our nation. We acknowledge that it begins with us; we as individuals must do our part to lead the way, starting in prayer. In the mighty name of Your Son, Jesus, we pray. Amen
